The terms justice, equity, diversity and inclusion are increasingly common words to hear in the fields of parks, recreation and leisure services as those in the field work to meet the fundamental goal of providing all members of their communities with access to parks and recreational opportunities.

While these concepts are not new, there is a renewed focus on these words and what they mean to the profession and the communities that they serve. Suppose the field of park, recreation, and leisure services fully embraces and serves the entiere community. In that case, it would genuinely take all dimensions of diversity into account, explicitly identifying, examining, and dismantling any discrinimatory and racist practices that have been upheld by the organizational barriers and stereotypical program offerings.
