You Attended the Career Fair(s), What’s Next?

You attended the career fair(s), met employers, and made some new connections. But your work isn’t done yet! What you do after the career fair can be just as important as attending.

  1. Follow Up with Employers

Did you have a great conversation with a recruiter? Send a short thank-you email or message to thank them for their time and reiterate your interest. If they encouraged you to apply for a position, be sure to follow through!

Our Career Fair resources include tips for following up after the fair.

  1. Submit Those Applications

Meeting an employer at the career fair does not replace the online application. If you learned about an internship or job that interests you, visit the employer’s website and submit your application as soon as possible.

Don’t forget to check HireFresnoState for current internships, part-time jobs, and career opportunities.

  1. Keep the Connection Going on LinkedIn

Search for the employers and organizations you met and follow their LinkedIn pages. You can also connect with recruiters or professionals you spoke with and include a brief, personalized message reminding them where you met. LinkedIn can help you stay connected and learn about future opportunities.

  1. Get Help with Your Next Step

Need to update your resume before applying? Not sure what to include in a follow-up email? Stop by the Career Cafe, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., in the University Student Union, Room 306. Career Peer Mentors can help with resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, HireFresnoState, and other career resources.

The career fair may be over, but your job or internship search is just getting started. Keep following up, keep applying, and keep building those connections!
