The Maddy Institute’s internship programs provide college students with hands-on opportunities to experience the inner workings of government and the legislative process.

Valley Legislative Internship Program
Each semester, 10 college students are selected to work in a city, county, state, or federal elected official’s office in the San Joaquin Valley. Interns gain hands-on experience in policy research, constituent services, and community outreach.
Applications for Fall typically open April.

Bob Beverly Sacramento Legislative Internship Program
Each summer, 2–4 students work in California’s state government, including the Governor’s office and legislative offices. Interns assist with research, attend hearings, and observe the policymaking process.

Jim Costa Washington, D.C. Legislative Internship Program
Each summer, 2–4 students work in congressional offices in Washington, D.C. Interns support legislative research, attend hearings, and engage with national policymakers.

Agricultural Policy Sacramento Internship Program
Each summer, 5 students work in a state regulatory agency focused on agriculture policy. Interns explore issues like food safety, pesticide regulation, and environmental sustainability.
