Researchers at California State University, in partnership with the US Forest Service, seek capable individuals for positions as Recreational Use Surveyors/Interviewers on the Sequoia, Angeles, or Inyo National Forests. Duties include conducting interviews and visitor use counts of recreation visitors at picnic areas, trailheads, campgrounds, and wilderness trailheads. Position requires driving to pre-determined forest locations, six hours of visitor-use counts/interviews, and some summary reporting. This work is part-time with most survey days scheduled on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays with some weekdays — and most survey days occur during late May 2026 through Fall 2026. Surveyors must be able to follow detailed survey protocol and comfortable working in the outdoor forest environment. This is excellent opportunity to participate in a national research program and gain valuable work (or internship) experience in partnership with the CSU and US Forest Service. Typical daily compensation includes 6 to 9 paid hours ($17.50 to $22 per hour) plus travel mileage and travel time compensation. This is a part-time research assistant position. Scheduling is flexible.
