The Fresno Police Department strives at providing the citizens of Fresno a safeand protected community. Fresno PD is currently seeking experienceddispatchers to provide excellent and prompt customer service. Journeylevel dispatchers shall answer and evaluate emergency police and emergencymedical service calls; operate a multi-channel Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD)system console and related equipment to dispatch appropriate public safetyunits; and prepare police and fire reports and records. Incumbents are expectedto perform emergency dispatch duties using a considerable amount of independentjudgment. Must receive certification by the Police Department verifyingthat the incumbent is capable of performing solo radio duty within 12 months ofappointment.
Employees may be assigned to work any eight- or ten-hour shift and may berequired to work weekends and holidays.
Shift pay is $1.25 to $1.75 per hour depending upon assigned shift.
Duties may include but are not limited to thefollowing:
-Answers emergency calls for police, fire,and/or emergency medical service; elicits necessary information about theincident and enters it simultaneously into the computer via a CRT terminal.
-Determines appropriate priority and response tocalls according to established policy, procedures, and codes; dispatches publicsafety personnel and equipment using CAD, radio systems, and peripheralequipment.
-Receives and transmits coded messages to andfrom police and fire personnel and field units.
-Advises callers of police and fire procedures,if no emergency response is required.
-Maintains computer records of communicationstraffic.
-Inputs driver’s license, vehicle registration,wants and warrants and other miscellaneous queries through the CAD system toCLETS and NCIC to provide information to officers.
Performs other duties as assigned.

THEREQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualificationson or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for theexamination.
Possession of a HS Diploma or equivalent GEDcompletion
-AND-
Two-years of experience equivalent to thatgained as an Emergency Services Dispatcher II with the City of Fresno, whichincluded operation of a multi-channel Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD) systemconsole and related equipment to dispatch public safety units; must type a netrate of 40 words per minute on a computer keyboard.
Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications must read and sign an ApplicantStatement. This statement indicates your understanding that as part ofthe qualifying process for Emergency Services Dispatcher with the City ofFresno, you will be required to complete a detailed pre-employment personalhistory form, followed by a thorough background investigation which willinclude a polygraph examination. SELECTION PROCESS
The examination process may consist of thefollowing:
ORAL EXAMINATION – 100%: A panel of subject matter experts may conduct ajob-related oral exam to evaluate a candidate’s abilities to speak clearly andconcisely, deal tactfully with citizens, maintain harmonious workingrelationships with other employees, handle emergency calls while maintainingcomposure and perform efficiently and calmly in a demanding work environment orother topics related to a candidate’s training, experience, and personal traitsfor the position of Emergency Services Dispatcher II. Candidates must achieve apassing score to qualify for the eligible list.
Since this recruitment is open on a continuous basis, the examination processmay be repeated periodically, depending on the number of applicants. As theseprocesses are completed, new candidates will be merged with the currenteligible list. Although your score will remain the same through this process,your placement on the eligible list may change.
Eligibles certified to the Police Department for consideration mustsuccessfully complete a polygraph test, an extensive background investigation,and a department interview before receiving conditional offers ofemployment. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment mustsuccessfully complete a medical examination before receiving a final offer ofemployment.
Pay, Benefits, &Work Schedule
UNIT 3Classification – The Fresno City Employees Association,Inc. (FCEA)
HEALTH INSURANCE: The City contributestoward monthly premiums for PPO medical, dental and vision for employee anddependents.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT: IRS 125 Plan for health and dependent care expenses.

VACATION LEAVE: Accrue 8 – 14.66hours per month based on years of service
SICK LEAVE: Eight (8) hours permonth, available after 90 days
SUPPLEMENTAL SICK- 40 hours per fiscal year. 80 hours lifetime maximum
HOLIDAYS: Ten (10)City-observed annual holidays plus birthday and two (2) personal days.
SHORT TERM DISABILITY: Providedthrough California SDI program.
BILINGUAL PREMIUM: PAY: $100 per month
HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT ARRANGEMENT: Eligible retirees canuse remaining Sick Leave balance at 80% of hourly rate and other leavebalances, if applicable, to reimburse medical insurance and qualified medicalexpenses, tax free.
RETIREMENT: City of Fresno Retirement Systems, one of thebest funded public systems in the state. Reciprocity with other CA public agencies. Vested in Retirement benefitsafter 5 years of service. City employees do not participate in SocialSecurity.
DROP(Deferred Retirement Option Program):an optional, voluntaryprogram that allows an employee to deposit retirement benefits in a specialsavings account within the Retirement System while continuing to work for theCity of Fresno for up to 10 years. Participation minimum is age 50 and vested. Benefits includes ownership of accumulated funds, compound interest earnings,and alternative distribution options.
