-Day Camp ($864-$912 per week): This is a part-time position providing leadership and guidance to children ages 5-9 years and children with special needs ages 5-12 at Whispering Pines Park. Activities include hiking, arts and crafts, camp skills, singing, folk dancing, outdoor cooking, nature activities, field trips and weekly special events.
-Playground Leader ($18.50-$19.50 per hour): This is a part-time position providing leadership and guidance to children ages 5-10 years, playing at neighborhood parks. Activities include games, arts and crafts, singing, sports, special events and lots of outdoor play.
-Camp Quien Sabe Resident Camp Counselor ($864-$912 per week): Develops and supervises the activities for a group of approximately 7-10 children. Each week’s activities include camp set-up, take-down, swimming, boating, hiking, crafts, nature activities, campfire programs, and cookout activities.
-Camp Quien Sabe Resident Camp Crafts Leader ($637.50-$671.50 per week): Oversees the craft area and plans craft projects. Interacts with each group of campers and their respective counselors throughout the week planning and executing age-appropriate crafts. Distributes camp materials and equipment. Responsible for organizing the camp library; preparing displays and bulletin boards, and silk screening shirts each week. Work schedule begins on Mondays at 7:30 a.m.
-Camp Quien Sabe Resident Camp Support Staff ($612-$646 per week):
(Support Staff rotate through the following jobs throughout the summer)
*KITCHEN HELPER: Assists cooks with the preparation and serving of meals. Washes cooking equipment and helps maintain a clean kitchen. Assists with boating and swimming supervision. Works some Sundays.
*HANDY PERSON: Performs a variety of tasks as needed. Cleans restrooms, supervises camper’s kitchen duties, secures food equipment for camper’s cookouts and hikes, assists with folk dancing, boating and swimming supervision. Works some Sundays.
*CRAFTS ASSISTANT: Works under the direction of the Crafts Leader.
1. Day Camp Counselors & Playground Leaders must be able to work the consecutive 7-week summer program (June 16 to August 1, 2025)
2. Day Camp Counselors must be able to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & Playground Leaders must be able to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
3. Be able to provide own transportation to and from work.
4. Be able to attend the in-service training session which is set for the week of June 9.
Resident Camp Positions must be willing to live at camp Monday through Friday afternoon and be available to work the entire camp season including staff orientation, staff meetings and the two mandatory weekends required for set-up and take-down. (June 13 – August 3, 2025).
5. All applicants must be able to meet the personal appearance and dress standards of the Recreation Division.
6. Must be at least 16 years of age.
7. Must show a valid Social Security Card and proof of citizenship or approval to work in the United States prior to final employment.
8. Possess personal skills in the leadership of several types of recreational activities, i.e. games, arts and crafts, nature lore, hiking, camp skills, singing and folk dancing, camp cooking, skits, and camp lore.
9. Possess the ability to organize groups for participation in diversified recreation program.
10. Possess the ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public and to solve minor disciplinary problems arising in the program.
11. Must be certified by either the American Red Cross or American Heart Association in standard First Aid, Blood borne Pathogen and CPR (Adult & Pediatric) training. No online certifications will be accepted. Monterey Recreation will provide training. It is the responsibility of the employee to complete the training at their own time and expense if they are unable to attend the scheduled class.
12. Eligible candidates, if selected for employment, will be subject to drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
13. Employees will be required to successfully pass a Livescan fingerprint background check and reference check.
14. Employees must be willing and able to follow all City of Monterey policies and procedures and any current required health protocols.
