CAREER DESCRIPTION
Controls Engineer 1 is part of a talented team of engineers assisting in the design, development, and implementation of control systems for various industrial applications. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist in the design and development of control systems, including PLC/PAC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
· Perform software unit testing.
· Development of simulation logic and perform software Factory Acceptance Tests under supervision.
· Understand DCI standards, CSIA system development lifecycle and implementation during project execution.
· Understanding of instrumentation types, manufacturers, scaling, and troubleshooting
· Interpret piping and instrumentation documentation (P&ID’s) with knowledge of ISA symbology and tagging conventions.
· Participate in the development of technical documentation, including device lists, I/O lists, functional descriptions, control schematics, submittals and user manuals.
· Understand control panel bill of materials (BOM), layouts, schematics, and hardware selection.
· Perform electrical schematic peer review, redline and interact with the electrical design team.
· Assist production team with control panel fabrication, as necessary.
· Perform control panel engineering quality control checkout and hardware Factory Acceptance Testing.
· Perform installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) during project commissioning in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
· Perform service calls during and after business hours in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
· Understanding basic electrical theory, troubleshooting and safety.
· Ability to multitask among varying active projects with effective time management with the goal to meet or exceed project milestones.
· Execute projects with attention to detail and effective communication.
· Actively contribute, support, and interact with internal project team members, vendors, customers, and field personnel.
· Collaborate within a team environment.
· Develop company training materials as directed by Technology Manager.
· Perform all administrative duties including but not limited to timesheets, policy review, policy approvals, safety training, and mileage logs.
· Work outside normal business hours as required to provide project and customer support.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
· Both office and industrial environment. In the industrial environment, employees are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, wet, cold, hot, humid, noisy conditions.

· Travel within the continental US up to 20% annually.
· Travel outside of the continental US up to 10% annually.

REQUIRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR High school diploma or GED plus equivalent controls experience.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Programs.
· Basic understanding of electrical circuits
· Basic understanding of programming languages
PREFERED SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE
· 2+ years of experience in industrial controls; design, programming, testing, and commissioning of automated control systems.
· Programming experience with Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Automation Direct industrial controllers.
· Programming experience with FactoryTalk View SE, Ignition, and Wonderware SCADA platforms as well as PanelView and C-More OIT terminals.
· Networking experience including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and AS-i Bus.
· Experience interpreting Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and developing appropriate control system design documents.
· Database experience with Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent.
· Servo and motion control experience.
· Process knowledge in the food and beverage industry including process instrumentation is a plus.
· AutoCAD Electrical and ePLAN experience for panel/schematic design following UL 508A, NEC and IEEE standards.
