The student’s position title is Assistant to the Director ofComposition. The job classification is Student Assistant for the EnglishDepartment, assigned to the First-Year Writing Program.
Work location may be the on-ground and/or virtual site, withprimary supervision by the Co-Director(s) of the First-Year Writing Program.
Position description:
Assistant to the Director of Composition (ADC) duties will include:
- Help with program assessment,gathering sample portfolios, acquiring and analyzing data, making surveys,putting together reports, etc.
- Help to organize a summerprogram assessment reading (if needed).
- Help with development ofresources for the program, developing new chapters in the sourcebook,developing short videos on key topics, and finding web links that support thetemplate curriculum.
- Maintain our WTCC googlefolder, making sure our docs are accessible to the instructors in the program.
- Serve as a liaison betweenthe program and relevant University stakeholders.
Depending on budget and resources, the English Department willhire at least one (1) ADC to assist the Co-Director(s) of the First-Year Writing Program.
The ADC must be a graduate student in good standing, who isenrolled in the English Department, and may be a current or former TeachingAssociate who has successfully taught one year in the First-Year WritingProgram.
The ADC’s work schedule can be arranged around the studentassistant’s course schedule, in consultation with the Co-Director(s) of the First-Year Writing Program.
Position evaluation:

- Begins duties and consistently makes deadlines.
- Performs duties accurately and with a high-attention todetail.
- Meets with the Co-Director(s) regularly to design programassessment instruments and develop resources for the program.
- Performs the assigned program assessment taskseffectively.
- Maintains minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Required: Graduate student in the EnglishDepartment and in good standing.
- Required: Taughtatleast two semesters in the First-Year Writing Program, as a Teaching Associate (TA).
- Preferred: Excellentwork in teaching as measured by strong student and faculty evaluations.
- Preferred: Demonstrate commitment to the programpedagogy and learning outcomes.
- Preferred:Participate actively in all the activities in the program (e.g., portfolioreadings, program assessment, Engl 282 course meetings, etc.).
