The counselor intern will work under the supervision of the EOP and Special Programs counselor to provide an orientation to the university experience and facilitate Student Development Workshops. In addition, the intern will work in conjunction with professional staff and faculty to assist students with: transition to the university, academic advising, and personal one-on-one counseling. Also, the intern will assist students in the program in completing Summer Bridge Program requirements and class assignments, and finalizing their fall class schedule, fall housing arrangements, and assist with completing the financial aid process.
Additional Duties:
- Manage a caseload of assigned students
- Provide intervention strategies, support, and adjustment techniques to new students.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings
- Attend weekly intern training/activities throughout the program
Required Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled and be in good academic standing in a graduate counseling program
- Completion of a counseling practicum course (counseling 208) or equivalent
Preferred Skills:
- Basic knowledge of campus resources
- Understanding of General Education requirements, university policies and procedures
- Desire to work with students from diverse, ethnic, cultural, and low socioeconomic backgrounds
