Student Assistant – Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)
The Student Assistant for the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office plays a vital dual role in supporting both front desk operations and accessible instructional material production. This position ensures a welcoming, inclusive environment for students, staff, faculty, and guests while also contributing to the creation of accessible media for students.
Front Desk & Testing Support

Greet and assist students, staff, faculty, and guests, serving as the first point of contact.

Answer phone calls, direct inquiries, and schedule appointments.

Provide general office support, including data entry, paperwork processing, and the use of office equipment.

Assist with student testing accommodations:

Prepare, start, and close exams.

Serve as a reader/scribe when needed.

Support students with testing-related questions.

Represent SSD at campus events and assist with special projects.
Accessible Instructional Materials Support

Convert course materials (textbooks, lab manuals, lecture slides, handouts) into accessible formats using OCR and other software.

Proofread and edit documents, including those with complex formatting (symbols, tables, images).

Prepare physical materials for scanning and electronic conversion.

Print and emboss hardcopy materials as needed.

Create and edit accessible multimedia (captions, transcripts, audio descriptions).

Maintain accurate production records in both written and electronic formats.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.

Proficiency with multiple operating systems (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS), Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and general office equipment (multi-line phones, copier/scanner/fax); ability to quickly learn new technologies and software.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and program needs.

Experience working with or supporting individuals with disabilities preferred.

Willingness to participate in SSD programs and activities as assigned.
