Job Description:
Local newspaper with circulation of 2,600 readers in Madera County is looking for a student journalist to intern as a reporter and to write some feature articles.
The Madera Tribune is published two days a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, covering only local news. We are very community oriented, and publish news and features of interest in and around our local community.
The internship will include 150 hours of work. At the end of the 150 hours, The Madera Tribune will pay the student intern a stipend of $540, for 30 of the hours.
Intern Job Responsibilities:
· Learn how to cover local news, features, businesses, and more
· Local reporting that may include City Council, School Board, Board of Supervisor meetings, and other news
· Interview for feature stories about people or businesses in Madera County
· Write articles that are thorough and clear
· Take pictures where needed (phone pictures are usually acceptable)
· Work with the editor to learn style and proper wording of articles
· Self-motivation in learning how to recognize what will make good news stories
· Communicate well with supervisor and editor
Work Hours
Production days are Mondays and Thursdays. Articles need to be scheduled by the editor and submitted no later than noon on the production day the article is assigned.
The work times and assignments for the student intern will depend on the student’s school schedule. Schedule could include weekend hours.
Work hours will be tracked on a weekly basis.

· Verbal communication skills
· Writing skills, with the ability to write quickly and accurately
· Working well with others, with the ability to learn from mentors
· Professional behavior
At the end of your internship (total 150 hours) you will get a stipend of $2,160 from the grant plus $540 from the site.
