Interning with the U.S. Commercial Service
The U.S. Commercial Service is an experienced, leading-edge, worldwide organization helping American firms meet the challenges of the global economy. The US Commercial Service has over 100 offices in the United States and in over 80 different countries overseas. Our goal is to promote the growth of U.S. trade on a global basis through the development and delivery of marketing and promotion services to American manufacturers, distributors and service providers.
Daily Intern Activities
Interns become involved in the daily operational aspects of managing a high-activity office. Interns support the office staff with event planning, counseling U.S. companies, website management, market research, etc. They will also learn how to use the U.S. Commercial Service’s information databases to access economic and market trends and data to support the office’s client activities. Once interns have the experience, they also will have the opportunity to develop export marketing and sales strategies with the goal of identifying channels of distribution and penetrating new markets for U.S. exporters.
Internship Eligibility
Intern candidates must be a U.S. citizen. He/she must be able to communicate in a professional environment and be enthusiastic and willing to learn. Any major is appropriate if the candidate wants to learn how to market and sell U.S. products in overseas markets.
Major areas of study
Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Law, International Relations, Marketing, Foreign Language, Communications, Sociology, Geography, Anthropology, and History majors are encouraged to apply. Any major is appropriate if students want to learn how to market and sell U.S. products abroad.
Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen, full or part time student with a minimum GPA of 3.0, complete an on boarding application, pass security clearance and background check prior to starting internship. Must have an interest in business development, import or export trade or working with in an international business industry. Please submit your resume through HireFresnoState for consideration.
IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ: This is an UNPAID INTERNSHIP. U.S Department of Commerce/U.S Commercial Service is an approved internship site for academic internship courses at Fresno State. If selected for the internship you MUST ENROLL IN THE APPROPRIATE INTERNSHIP COURSE FOR YOUR MAJOR BEFORE STARTING YOUR INTERNSHIP HOURS. To enroll you must contact the appropriate faculty member in your academic department for approval prior to starting the internship.
