The interns will be assigned to the Central Federal Lands Highway Division, which covers 14 central and western states including Hawaii. These internships will be in the Construction Branch working on a construction project within our area of jurisdiction. Interns will be assisting FLH project engineers and staff overseeing the construction of roadway, trail, and bridge projects. Through this internship, you will gain practical skills and experience in civil engineering that will be the foundation of your career!
The Pathways Student Trainee (Civil Engineering) will intern in the Construction Branch where you will:
- Inspect construction activities on active construction projects.
- Perform field sampling and test construction materials.
- Participate in partner and construction meetings.
- Serve as an instrument operator or rodman on construction survey of projects or monitor contractor stakeout, including staking of centerline, slope staking, drainage staking, structural staking, and setting of grade stakes.
- Compute and balance quantities.
The ideal candidates are current students pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, or a related engineering field, who have the desire to learn about the design and construction of highways and bridges.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
