Transitional Kindergarten Teacher
Work Days: 187 days
Salary Range: Correct placement on the EUSD salary schedule based on years of teaching experience and units beyondBachelor’s Degree.
Reports To: Principal or Designee
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Aligns classroom curriculum with adopted standards and materials.
- Instructs in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other state law and administrative regulations.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individualized and small group instruction in order toadapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to utilize instructional time in the best manner.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior.
- Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth; keeps records, prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents through a variety of means; holds parent conferences.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solvehealth, attitude and learning problems.
- Creates a stimulating learning environment.
- Maintains professional competence through continued education.
- Preforms basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Has empathy for developmental needs and ability of pupils.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides; maintains required inventories.
- Provides comfortable environment-heating, lighting, ventilation.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during assigned working day.
- Administers group standardized tests.
- Participates in curriculum development programs.
- Shares in sponsorship of student activities.
- Participates on faculty committees.
- Coordinates the work of aides, teaching assistance, and para-professionals.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Strategies used in lesson planning, instructing, and evaluating progress of students.
- Strategies to instruct students individually and in group situations.
- Techniques for effective student motivation and discipline.
- Innovative curriculum development strategies.
- Strategies for working with students of multi-ethnic and varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to:
- Create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth
- Achieve and realize compatibility between personal professional goals and District philosophy and curriculumprograms.
- Adapt the curriculum and materials to the needs of each student.
- Evaluate and maintain personal and professional growth standards.
- Cooperate with school and District staff and parent community in instructional planning for individual studentachievement.
- Maintain accurate records for reporting purposes.
- Provide a safe, positive and productive environment which maintains student interest and motivation.
- Direct and supervise assigned classified personnel.
- Analyze and interpret student performance for purposes of modifying instruction.
- Effectively communicate in written and verbal form with students, school personnel, parents, andadministration.
- Establish rapport, communicate with, and involve parents in their child’s total education.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, teachers, parents and community.
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or University.
- The teacher preparation program may be completed concurrently with employment under specialcircumstances, if approved by the District (internship).
- An appropriate valid Multiple Subject California Teaching Credential that authorizes service in a self-contained classroom.
- Candidate must hold one of the following:
At least 24 units in early childhood education, or childhood development, or both.
As determined by the local educational agency employing the teacher, professional experience in aclassroom setting with preschool age children that is comparable to the 24 units of education; describedabove.
A child development teacher permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
