What were you hoping to gain from applying to an internship?
I was a junior in my fall semester when applying to internships. I knew my next step was to put myself in a professional setting to gain skills and knowledge to make my resume stand out. I was hoping to understand what the accountancy fieldwork consisted of regarding differences in public and private accounting.
What skills do you feel you have gained from your internship?
A valuable skill I have learned from my internship is the ability to read financial reports and statements and to make decisions based on the information provided. Each month-end close process is different from the previous month. It’s critical to read this information thoroughly and record items in the right accounts and periods. This internship has given me the ability to learn multiple accounting software. Those include QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, AppFolio, and Sage Intacct.
What do you aspire to accomplish with your internship?
Price Paige & Company has allowed me to learn so much about the business industry and the culture of the firm is awesome! I applied to internships in hopes of receiving a full-time offer and I was offered one by Price Paige & Company. I will begin this full-time position after graduation.
What advice would you give other students looking to do an internship or who are currently doing one?
I would advise students to begin applying as early as they can to give themselves room to experience working with multiple firms. HireFresnoState has countless opportunities to apply for so just take the time to research and find one that best suits you. Make sure to attend workshops that are geared toward preparing you for the application and interview process.
